I am experienced at supporting members of the Armed Forces and Armed Forces Veterans.

Outdoor ‘Walk and Talk’ Counselling
I am trained to deliver Outdoor ‘Walk and Talk’ Counselling which, as well as being a good form of exercise, can be a very positive experience for those who enjoy being outside in nature, or who find the physical environment of a counselling room too restrictive. Some individuals with a diagnosis of ADHD find the movement and activity of walking, whilst talking through their concerns, very helpful.
Counselling initially begins indoors, allowing a full assessment to be made and a plan developed for future outdoor counselling sessions. Outdoor counselling can take place in woodland, lakeside, or coastal locations, with accessible routes that cater for most levels of fitness.
Outdoor counselling can be a very positive environment for working through many issues but it may not be suitable for everyone. This will be discussed during the assessment process.

Mental Health First Aid
As a Mental Health First Aid Instructor, I provide high quality training to groups and organisations. Participants receive a nationally recognised certificate, accredited by Nuco Training (Adult First Aid for Mental Health – Level 1, 2 or 3) or Mental Health First Aid England (Youth Mental Health First Aid).
Mental Health First Aid instruction helps participants to recognise the signs, and respond appropriately, to common mental health difficulties including:

Coaching for Adults and Young People
I am trained and insured to deliver Stress Management and Health and Wellbeing Coaching. Coaching can help individuals and small groups to work through particular issues that are being faced, e.g. to understand why we react to particular events or certain people in the way that we do. Successful coaching helps the person being coached to increase self-understanding and develop the specific interventions which lead to a greater motivation to change.
With over 8 years of experience of school pastoral management and classroom teaching, I can coach young people to help them develop the skills, practical tools and emotional resilience to manage stress and look after their physical health and mental wellbeing. These skills are vital for enabling young people to thrive in a social and educational system that often puts significant pressure upon them.
I am also able to support adults who wish to work on particular areas around their health, e.g. developing their personal fitness, modifying unhealthy habits and establishing patterns that promote physical and mental health in the short, medium and long term.
Coaching is different to counselling but still remains firmly centred on the warm, friendly and empathetic coaching relationship that I seek to build with those I support. To discuss whether coaching could potentially help you or a child in your care, please get in touch.
Person-Centred Counselling
If CBT is unsuitable or you would prefer a less structured therapeutic approach, Person-Centred Counselling provides a safe space for individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a non-directive, warm and accepting counselling relationship. For more information, contact me or visit the Person-Centred Association (tPCA) website from the link below.

Online Therapy
A Diploma in Online Counselling, accredited by the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO), enables me to provide high quality online therapy, as well as in-person (Face-to-Face) counselling.
Online therapy takes place using a variety of secure communication mediums. These include Video (Webcam), Internet Phone, Email and Instant Messaging (Web chat) platforms.
Online counselling can benefit people with limited time, as it removes the need for travelling to appointments. It can also assist those who are anxious about leaving the house to receive therapy. Individuals with a physical condition that makes travelling to appointments a challenge, are able to access counselling from the comfort of their home.
Those who prefer communicating through writing, or who wish to retain a greater degree of anonymity, often find counselling via Email or Instant Messaging particularly helpful.
Online therapy is suitable for treating a broad range of problems. All referrals and applications for online counselling are carefully assessed before therapy begins. If online counselling is not appropriate, alternative forms of therapy will be discussed with you. For more information, please get in touch, via Phone, Email or the website Contact page.
